NYC Results meets with Rep. McMahon!!

Thanks to Representative McMahon and District Director Patrick Hyland for a wonderful meeting yesterday at their welcoming district office on Staten Island.

Our meeting was arranged by long-time RESULTS member Joanne Didato and focused on crucial foreign aid reform. Joanne had campaigned for Representative McMahon, who now sits on the Foreign Affairs committee, and he and Patrick were both extremely generous with their time and attention to the issues. During the meeting we also had a chance to address microcredit and global education as well as to trade notes how we can best work with the Representative and his staff.

"Asks":
At the meeting, we requested that the Representative:
1) Formally communicate with Foreign Affairs Chair Howard Berman in support of our basic principles for making Foreign Aid work: Poverty Reduction, Country Ownership, and Accountability.

Representative McMahon understood the need for reform and we agreed to work with his wonderful Foreign Affairs aide Naz Durakoglu to see how our principles can fit into the Representative's work.

2) Support Microcredit by signing on to H.R. 2000

Representative McMahon has worked extensively with micro finance during his years serving New York City on the City Council and he has seen its power to transform small businesses first hand. We're looking forward to introducing him further to the work of Muhammad Yunus (who's Grameen America is based in NYC) and hope for a co-sponsorship (which can be done by a quick phonecall to Will O'Neal with Rep. Holt (D-NJ) at (202) 225-5801.)

THANK YOU!!
Thanks again to the Representative for his generous time. We had a great time at the meeting and were very impressed by both the Congressman and his staff. Special thanks to Joanne Didato for her work with the Congressman and for setting up and leading the meeting.
